12th annual Gallmeyer Farms Strawberry Fields Festival set for May 28-30

The 12th annual Gallmeyer Farms Strawberry Fields Festival will take place May 28-30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Berry Patch, 3622 Darbytown Ct. in Varina. The festival features pick-your-own strawberries for sale, live music every day, food and craft vendors, play area for children with a bounce house, hay rides, pony rides and more. Applebee’s at Westpark Shopping Center to hold ‘Flapjack Fundraiser’

June 04 2016 - Proceeds will benefit the children of the Coal Pit Learning Center, 8 a.m., $10
Applebee’s at Westpark Shopping Center, 9601 W. Broad St., will host a Flapjack Fundraiser to benefit the Coal Pit Learning Center from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tickets are $10 each and include a meal of pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs and beverage (coffee, juice, soda or tea). Tickets can be obtained from any CPLC board member or by visiting Stevens Jewelers at 10877 W. Broad St. in Parkside Marketplace. Proceeds will benefit the children of the Coal Pit Learning Center, a preschool for low-income families. Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center to host annual spaghetti dinner, concert

June 25 2016 - Country/gospel music provided by the Barker Family Band, 4:30 p.m., $7
The Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center will host its annual Spaghetti Dinner and Benefit Concert from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Scottish Rite Temple, 4204 Hermitage Rd. Meal includes hearty spaghetti and meat sauce, fresh salad, bakery bread, homemade dessert and choice of beverage. Country/gospel music provided by the Barker Family Band. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased in advance or at the door. Proceeds benefit the SRCLC, a nonprofit speech and hearing clinic for children with communication disorders. Sandston Founders Club honors Sydnor


The Founders Club of Sandston presented lifetime membership to Charles W. Sydnor at its 12th annual meeting last month.

Sydnor, who grew up in Sandston and later served as president of Emory and Henry College for eight years, was honored by Founder Club President Alice Taylor Baldwin at the April 23 event at Sandston Memorial Recreation Center. > Read more.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving will present its annual Walk Like MADD 5k Dash/Walk on Apr. 16 at Dorey Park, 2999 Darbytown Road. Check-in starts at 8 a.m. with the walk beginning at 9 a.m. Walk Like MADD honors those killed or injured in impaired driving crashes.
