Unanswered Prayers, a made-for-television movie shot in the Richmond region, including several locations in Varina, will premiere on the Lifetime Television network on Monday, Nov. 29 at 9 p.m.
The movie was produced by singer Garth Brooks and based on his song of the same name. The film explores the themes of marriage, family, community and second chances with love, asking, “Did I let the one I loved get away, or is she right in front of me?”
It's the story of a happily married father (Eric Close) living the American dream. When the woman (Mädchen Amick) of his high school fantasies returns home, he has to face his past and will be presented with a choice that could change his future forever.
Filming took place along Old Osborne Turnpike in Varina, as well as at Varina High School, where a homecoming football scene was filmed.
While in Virginia, Brooks also shot a public service announcement for Virginia Tourism with Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell.
“We were honored to work with Garth Brooks, Sony Entertainment Television and Lifetime Television on this exceptional film that coincides with the 20th anniversary of his powerful and inspirational song," Virginia Film Office director Rita McClenny said.
Unanswered Prayers was a recipient of a grant from the Governor’s Motion Picture Opportunity Fund. In 2008, film and media production contributed $378 million to Virginia’s economy.
