Henrico Citizen Staff Reports 03/03/11
Following are routine and complaint inspection reports for Henrico County food establishments inspected recently by the Henrico Health Department, according to Virginia Department of Health guidelines. Deficiencies are noted as “critical” (posing a direct or immediate threat to the safety of the food being served) or “non-critical” (representing a failure of cleaning or maintenance). Inspections represent only a snapshot of the establishment on a specific date and time and may not be representative of its overall cleanliness, according to the VDH. Unless noted, all reported violations were corrected at the time of inspection or shortly thereafter.
Bojangles, 11 South Laburnum Avenue – Two critical violations reported (open cup of soda observed at biscuit station, biscuit maker with gum; cook observed washing his hands, then failing to use a paper towel to dry) and no non-critical violations reported.
China Panda, 8970 Quioccasin Road – No violations reported.
Hawk’s BBQ & Seafood, 8191 Brook Road – Two critical violations reported (found BBQ at 49 degrees; found bucket of bleach on cutting board on the sandwich prep table) and no non-critical violations reported.
Heavenly Burgers, 608 East Nine Mile Road – One critical violation reported (onions observed at 63 degrees, sliced cheese at 60 degrees at grill top) and one non-critical violation reported.
Lehja Restaurant, 11800 West Broad Street – Two critical violations reported (bare hand contact observed with cooked ready to eat bread; onion sauce dated Aug. 13 observed at 59 degrees) and three non-critical violations reported.
New Bridge Baptist Church Child Care Center, 5803 Nine Mile Road – No violations reported.
Penn Station East Coast Subs, 9320 West Broad Street – Two critical violations reported (hands not washed for required length of time; lexan containers observed not properly cleaned ) and one non-critical violation reported.
Whole Foods Market, 11173 West Broad Street – Three critical violations reported (chicken was cooked to 126 degrees, employee had checked some pieces but one large piece was undercooked; potato salad that had been made in morning was 104 degrees in a large, closed container; sliced meats on top of sandwich unit were 45-47 degrees) and no non-critical violations reported.
Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar, 9601 West Broad Street – No violations reported.
Aunt Sarah’s Pancake House, 9010 Brook Road – One critical violation reported (pancake batter dispenser utensils and lids to plastic containers were not clean) and two non-critical violations reported.
Courtyard by Marriott, 10077 Brook Road – No violations reported.
Melody’s Sugar Shack at Glen Allen Softball Complex, 2203 Mountain Road – No violations reported.
Mexico Restaurant, 11621 West Broad Street – Two critical violations reported (carnitas and cheese sauce prepared for several days use not date labeled; chemical spray bottles not labeled ) and one non-critical violation reported.
Osaka Sushi & Steakhouse, 11674 West Broad Street – Two critical violations reported (food handler observed drinking in cook/prep area from open cup; employee observed wiping nose with paper, not washing hands before beginning to return to work) and one non-critical violation reported.
Reynolds Cafe, 6641 West Broad Street – One critical violation reported (items on salad bar that were kept for another day observed at improper temperature – pasta salad, sea legs, sea leg salad) and one non-critical violation reported.
Boardwalk Inc., 2106 Henderson Road – Two critical violations reported (cooked onions observed at 87 degrees; observed potato salad at 47 degrees in reach-in, tomatoes in prep at 45 degrees) and eight non-critical violations reported.
Bob Evans’ Restaurant, 5431 Glenside Drive – Three critical violations reported (raw fish found over ready to eat food in chef’s refrigeration unit; foods in refrigeration units -- milk, chocolate milk – observed at improper temperatures; liquid egg, cole slaw, chicken in portion bags in salad prep refrigerator in back at improper temperatures; backflow prevention device on both carbonators not atmospheric vented) and five non-critical violations reported.
The Sandstonian, 400 West Williamsburg Road – Two critical violations reported (no tag available for mussels; bacon, scallops, bologna in make table, two door display, lemon meringue pie at improper temperatures) and no non-critical violations reported.
