Citizen Staff Reports 05/07/12
The following are routine and complaint inspection reports for Henrico County food establishments inspected recently by the Henrico Health Department, according to Virginia Department of Health guidelines. Deficiencies are noted as “critical” (posing a direct or immediate threat to the safety of the food being served) or “non-critical” (representing a failure of cleaning or maintenance). Inspections represent only a snapshot of the establishment on a specific date and time and may not be representative of its overall cleanliness, according to the VDH. Unless noted, all reported violations were corrected at the time of inspection or shortly thereafter.
Arby’s, 5220 Williamsburg Road – Three critical violations reported (worker observed returning from store and proceeding to prepare food without washing hands; bleu cheese, feta, olives found inside display salad unit at improper temperatures; no readable dates on bags of precooked pulled chicken) and no non-critical violations reported.
Baker’s Crust Cafe, 11800 West Broad Street – Two critical violations reported (sanitizer in dishmachine did not turn test tape to indicate chlorine at proper concentration; several flies observed in kitchen – at least four on one corner of wall near oven – and numerous flies observed on pest strip) and six non-critical violations reported.
Flinn’s, 403-B North Ridge Road – One critical violation reported (meats in ice bath at line – roast beef, burgers – observed at improper temperatures and ice level below food level) and six non-critical violations reported.
Glen Allen High School, 10700 Staples Mill Road – No violations reported.
Greek 4U, 10620 Patterson Avenue – No violations reported.
King of Szechuan, 3991 Glenside Drive – Three critical violations reported (employees did not wash hands before food prep after talking on phone, taking break/leaving kitchen, carrying dirty dishes; cooked noodles and chicken in walk-in refrigerator were not date marked; live adult roach found on paper bags where take out orders are assembled) and 13 non-critical violations reported.
Bogart’s Inc., 443 North Ridge Road – One critical violation reported (spaghetti noodles and sauce at improper temperatures – these were found on lower shelf of “true” reach-in) and seven non-critical violations reported.
Buz and Ned’s Real Barbecue, 8205 West Broad Street – Three critical violations reported (zip bag with raw steak in it found stored over cole slaw in reach-in refrigerator; slicer and cutting boards found not visibly clean before stored for reuse; chicken – cooked from raw – placed in service container at improper temperature) and no non-critical violations reported.
Glenburnie Rehab and Nursing Center, 1901 Libbie Avenue – Two critical violations reported (no sanitizer found for dish-machine; bean soup “cooked yesterday” found refrigerated at approximately 4 p.m. at improper temperature) and no non-critical violations reported.
Hampton Inn, 421 International Centre Drive – No critical violations reported and one non-critical violation reported.
Hyatt Place, 4401 South Laburnum Avenue – One critical violation reported (dishmachine final rinse only reaching 150-155 degrees) and two non-critical violations reported.
Indian Pastry House, 3409 Old Parham Road – Two critical violations reported (raw Cornish hen found on package of limes; TCS food – container of cooked peas in reach-in refrigerator for cakes, cooked chicken wings/drummies, chicken pastry, vegetable pastry in display case at improper temperatures in refrigeration units) and six non-critical violations reported.
Magnolia Ridge Child Development Center, 1300 Virginia Center Parkway – No violations reported.
O’Charley’s Restaurant, 6291 West Broad Street – No critical violations reported and four non-critical violations reported.
Osaka Sushi & Steakhouse, 11674 West Broad Street – Two critical violations reported (cook dipped shrimp into batter, rinsed off glove and picked up clean plate; employee used bare hand to pick up lemon wedge and put on rim of glass) and one non-critical violation reported.
Slice of Grace Bakery Boutique, 7424 Brook Road – No violations reported.
Village Learning Center, Inc., 1219 North Laburnum Avenue – No violations reported.
Arianna’s Italian Grill, 5107 Lakeside Avenue – No violations reported.
Chadar Thai, 8030 West Broad Street – One critical violation reported (employees observed putting garnishes -- crushed peanuts, orange slices, etc. – on food with bare hands) and no non-critical violations reported.
Classic’s, 4820 Williamsburg Road – No violations reported.
El Rey International Supermarket, Inc., 6006 West Broad Street – Three critical violations reported (all food at steam table -- tamales, chicken, beans, soups -- found at improper temperatures; food in top wells of prep unit -- tomatoes, pico de gallo, queso -- found at improper temperatures; no prepared foods were date labeled) and no non-critical violations reported.
Hillbilly Reds BBQ, 353 East Williamsburg Road – One critical violation reported (macaroni and cheese inside “Haier” found at improper temperature) and no non-critical violations reported.

CalendarThe Henrico County Historical Society will meet at 2:30 p.m. at the Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Rd. The speaker will be Dr. Bruce M. Venter, who will discuss his new book, “Kill Jeff Davis – The Union Raid on Richmond, 1864.” Venter’s major interest is Civil War cavalry with an emphasis on the career of Union general Judson Kilpatrick. He frequently lectures on the cavalry and has led bus tours on the Kilpatrick-Dahlgren raid, the focus of his book, “Kill Jeff Davis – The Union Raid on Richmond, 1864.” Full text
