First Lady of Virginia to serve as honorary chair for Cure by Design

The American Cancer Society has selected the First Lady of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Maureen McDonnell, to serve as honorary chair for this year’s Cure by Design Survivor Fashion Show.

Taking place on Sept. 24 at the Hilton Richmond Hotel & Spa in Short Pump, Cure by Design is an event in which the Richmond fashion, design and retail communities join forces to benefit the American Cancer Society. The main event of the evening is a fashion show featuring designer fashions from fashion designers and local retailers modeled by cancer survivors of all ages. The event will last from 6 to 10 p.m., with the itinerary including a cocktail reception, silent auction, survivor fashion show, live auction, and a survivor reception. Tickets are on sale now for $125 each.

A cast of nearly 50 local survivor models including men, women and children will walk the runway to celebrate the diversity of cancer survivorship. The advertisements for this year’s Cure by Design, photographed by Kristie Bradley, spotlight one of the event’s survivor models, Chris Barrett.

Featured national designers include Alex Garfield, Johnathan Kayne and Tommy Hilfiger. Richmond-based designer Eveyln Bagala will also be highlighted.  Featured local retailers include Buttons & Bows, Eurotrash, Franco’s Fine Clothier, La Grande Dame, Pink, Saxon Shoes and The French Boutique.
