Collegiate graduate’s film opens in Richmond
Citizen Staff Reports 07/20/12
Michael Gottwald
The film was shot in South Louisiana and tells the story of six year-old Hushpuppy who lives in a forgotten but defiant bayou community, cut off from the rest of the world.
Gottwald is a founding member of the New Orleans-based Court 13 Film Collective, which produced “Beasts of the Southern Wild.” He served as executive producer on Court 13’s “Glory at Sea” in 2007, a short film made possible by the support of a handful of generous Richmond residents and was screened at the Byrd Theatre in May 2008.
Gottwald’s family are well-known Richmond philanthropists, having provided grants for nonprofit and educational causes, including the Gottwald Playhouse in Richmond’s CenterStage Performing Arts Center.
Seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis for the July 28 screening. Westhampton Theatre is located at 5706 Grove Ave. For details, email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
