CACGA to host UkeFest Virginia Nov. 2-3

The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen will host UkeFest Virginia, a celebration of the four string dynamo, on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2-3. The Festival features wall to wall music, from serious concerts to informal jams, workshops, and open mic performances, as well as, artisans and vendors; all designed to present the wide range of fun available from this unique and mesmerizing instrument.
The event kicks off Friday as Ashland resident Thomas Wakefield and The Aloha Boys perform at 7 p.m. An Open Mic Jam follows at 9 p.m. UkeFest continues at 11 a.m. Saturday and concludes with a large performance at 10 p.m. Classes include “Intro to Swing Ukulele,” “Play Ukulele by Ear” and “Kentucky Banjo on the Uke.” Children will have the opportunity to handle different ukuleles and even learn a one or two chord song in the Ukulele Petting Zoo.
UkeFest admission includes a UkeFest Unlimited Access Package for $65 (all concerts and three workshops) or individual tickets which are $12 for concerts and $10 for workshops. There is also a free festival area. CACGA is located at 2880 Mountain Rd. For details, visit http://www.ukefestva.com
