Kenya Safari Acrobats to perform at CACGA

The Kenya Safari Acrobats – a high-spirited troupe from Africa – will perform twice at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen on Thursday, Feb. 3. Shows will be held at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The group promotes African circus entertainment throughout the world. (Africa is being recognized internationally as the birthplace of the circus.)

The acrobats perform a variety of gravity-defying human pyramids, balancing, tumbling, limbo dancing, hurling through hoops and contortions, all while clapping to a joyful Benga beat. The group is known for its artistry, humor and playfulness, which it demonstrates while building five- and six-man structures with names like “The Hilton,” “Star Full,” “The Airplane” and “Sudanese.” Along the way come classical flips and dance steps commemorating their Bantu heritage, each performed at high speeds.

Tickets are priced at $15 for all ages for the 10 a.m. performance and $30 for all ages for the 7 p.m. performance. They may be purchased by calling the box office Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. or Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 261-ARTS (2787) or by ordering online at http://www.artsglenallen.com.

The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen is located at 2880 Mountain Road in Glen Allen, just off I-295 Woodman Road south exit 45B.
