It’s going to be a fantastic fall weekend and there are several ways to get off the couch and help out your community! The 2015 Walk to End Alzheimer’s and the Central Virginia Kidney Walk both take place Saturday in Innsbrook. On Sunday, NOVA of Virginia Aquatics will present the 7th annual Short Pump Mile and Short Pump Express Fun Run, to benefit NOVA’s community outreach programs. (This event was originally scheduled for Oct. 4 but postponed due to Hurricane Joaquin.) We also found events for ukulele lovers, beer lovers and nature lovers! Happy Halloween! A lot of fun, fall activities are taking place this weekend in Henrico. Tonight, the West End Assembly of God will host its annual Fall Festival Family Carnival and Elko Middle School will present its second annual family Trunk or Treat event. Tomorrow, the Children’s Museum of Richmond’s Short Pump location will hold a “not-so-spooky” party. And on Sunday, the Latin Ballet will present El Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Family Festival at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. For all our top picks this weekend, click here!

Collegiate School to host Ken Burns in Richmond Nov. 5


Collegiate School will end its year-long 100th anniversary celebration by hosting renowned historian and documentary filmmaker Ken Burns for an evening talk on Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.

Burns will speak at 8 p.m. on the topic “Sharing the American Experience.” His speech will be followed by a question-and-answer period, moderated by Edward L. Ayers, acclaimed historian and University of Richmond President Emeritus.

No need to wait until next Saturday to celebrate Halloween – there are several fun events happening this weekend in Henrico! The Three-Penny Theatre will debut the new play “Horrors!,” a Halloween play for grown-ups. Tom Leonard’s final Friday Night at the Pumpkin Patch will be “Spooky Bats and the Scaredy Cats.” Innsbrook’s Great Pumpkin Palzooa, the Great Pumpkin Race and the much-loved Punkin Dunkin are on Saturday.
