The many needy lives of Walter Mitty


The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and its hero, Walter Mitty (Ben Stiller) have something in common – they both just want to be appreciated. But Walter just seeks the affection of a single person: his unrequited office love, Cheryl (Kristen Wiig).

Potbelly opening in March


A Chicago-based sub chain has bellied up to the Richmond market to open its first shop in Henrico County.

Potbelly Sandwich Works is slated to open in the Colonnades West shopping center on West Broad Street in Glen Allen in mid-March. The shop serves up subs, sandwiches, salads, soup and milkshakes and since opening in 1977, has expanded to close to 300 shops across the U.S.

David Duke, primary owner of the local Potbelly has been hungry for a piece of the Henrico restaurant scene for some time now.}

Coffee, anyone?


Virginia Repertory Theatre will host theater enthusiasts and intrigued patrons for the latest in its monthly installment of “Coffee and Conversations” on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at its Willow Lawn location, featuring an inside look behind French Connection: Duquesnay to Moliere.

Virginia Rep has been hosting similar gatherings for the past five seasons. The program serves as an audience engagement opportunity to educate patrons about the process of the theater, the various programs and how it works.}

Burgers, by the ‘Bach’

I’ve never cared for burgers, and I’ve certainly never sought out a restaurant specialized in the sandwich. That’s until I ventured into Burger Bach (pronounced batch) in Carytown. The New Zealand-inspired gastropub made a believer out of a burger-skeptic like me with its gourmet burgers, handcut fries and homemade dipping sauces.

It’s not surprising that others loved it, too, and its second location opened in West Broad Village in November. Eager to compare the two, I headed over for lunch on a Saturday with a friend and an empty stomach.}
