Henrico’s Rayvon Owen among headliners at Live Art June 11

Rayvon Owen
Richmonder Rayvon Owen and SPARC alumnus Jason Mraz top the list of nationally known recording artists who will be joined onstage by 200 SPARC students with and without disabilities at “Live Art: Dream” June 11 at 5 p.m. at Altria Theater.

Live Art is the inclusive program, now in its fifth year, for students with and without disabilities created by School of the Performing Arts in the Richmond Community (SPARC). Working together in a variety of visual and performing arts classes for one year, students with a range of disabilities alongside typically developing students, rehearse their performances while building relationships and understanding of one another using SPARC’s unique ACE (acceptance, compassion, and empathy) curriculum.

Fifty-eight FIRST Robotics Competition teams from Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia will face off at the FIRST Chesapeake District Championship Apr. 7-8 at the VCU Siegel Center. This is the culmination of seven district qualifying competitions where over 125 teams competed. Winners will advance to the FIRST World Championship in St. Louis, Mo. Admission is free and open to the public. Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. Full text
