The second-best movie, of 2

I’ve never been to India. I’m pretty sure The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel knows that, somehow. And I’m pretty sure that’s the point. You pop in the DVD and stroll the streets of Jaipur with a group of elderly, exceedingly likable Brits. Then you pop the DVD out, feeling amused and mildly enriched. The end.

There’s not a whole lot going on in The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, released on DVD on July 14. Again, I think that’s probably the point.

Just like the first Best Exotic Marigold, the film follows a group of sun-crinkled English ex-pats living in India’s quirkiest retirement community. }
