Short Pump Town Center and West Broad Village are both ending their summer concert series this weekend. You can find American Idol 2010 winner Lee Dewyze and national recording artists Sister Hazel at Short Pump. Shoot To Thrill N’ Dirty White Girls, an all-girl band tribute to AC/DC and Foreigner, will perform at West Broad Village. Want more music? The second-best movie, of 2

I’ve never been to India. I’m pretty sure The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel knows that, somehow. And I’m pretty sure that’s the point. You pop in the DVD and stroll the streets of Jaipur with a group of elderly, exceedingly likable Brits. Then you pop the DVD out, feeling amused and mildly enriched. The end.

There’s not a whole lot going on in The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, released on DVD on July 14. Again, I think that’s probably the point.

Just like the first Best Exotic Marigold, the film follows a group of sun-crinkled English ex-pats living in India’s quirkiest retirement community.

Some exciting events are taking place in the Eastern part of the county this weekend. St. John’s Catholic Church in Highland Springs will hold its annual Summer Fest – try their BBQ, ribs and turkey legs! The Mirror Mode Mentoring Program will host a Community Day and Hygiene Drive at the Walgreens on Nine Mile Rd. – enjoy face painting, music and vendors; donated hygiene items for boys and girls will be distributed to youth before the start of the school year. The sixth annual GWAR-B-Q is back at Hadad’s Lake in Varina – a unique experience for any punk, rock and metal fan! ZZ Top, The Beach Boys, O.A.R., others to play Innsbrook

Innsbrook After Hours will welcome ZZ Top, The Beach Boys, O.A.R. and other performers this month.

On Aug. 12, Tyler Farr, with special guest Parmalee, will perform at 6 p.m., with gates opening at 5 p.m. Farr began his career with years of formal voice training with the OAKE National Choir but at 21, he moved to Nashville. Tickets are $15 to $99.

On Aug. 13, Innsbrook After Hours will present ZZ Top, with special guest Blackberry Smoke, at 6 p.m.

Henrico County will offer a free home maintenance workshop from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the former Dumbarton Library at 6800 Staples Mill Rd. The topic will be “Weatherization and Maintenance” and will teach attendees about seasonal activities, such as cleaning gutters, washing siding and maintaining heating systems. It also will address how to take care of major appliances and prevent dangerous situations. There will be hands-on demonstrations, exhibits and light refreshments.
