Cultural Arts Center announces summer class schedule

From Legos to wine tasting, The Cultural Arts Center is hosting a variety of classes this summer for both kids and adults.

Starting this month, the center has begun classes in a variety of subject areas, including: ceramics, music, painting, photography, confectionary arts, and many more. The classes are designed in part to promote creativity, culture and entertainment in the community.

CAT’s 53rd season opens with new directors

The Chamberlayne Actors Theatre recently announced its director picks for the upcoming 2016-2017 season. Three of the four directors chosen will be working with CAT for the first time.

Steven W. Ryan will be making his first professional directorial debut with his production of “I’ll Be Back Before Midnight” (Oct. 14-29). Ryan has been a locally known actor since the late 1990s.

Zachary Owen will direct “Wishing Well” (Jan. 20-Feb. 4, 2017). Owen is currently assistant director and head of sound for CAT’s summer offering, “Don’t Cry For Me Margaret Mitchell.”

In Eastern Henrico, singer and pianist Matt Beilis will perform at the Henrico Theatre and the Fairfield Middle School Divine Destiny Step Team will present the second annual Lupus Awareness Showcase. Innsbrook to host Central Va. Wine Festival

The 2016 Central Virginia Wine Festival will take place rain or shine Saturday, May 14, from noon to 6 p.m. at the Innsbrook Pavilion.

This year’s event will showcase 12 wineries from the Commonwealth, live music, food and beverage concessions, craft beer sales, specialty-item and arts and crafts vendors and more.
