The Richmond West Breakfast Lions Club (based in western Henrico) recently donated 59 backpacks to the Westover Hills Elementary School on Jahnke Road.

Caring Bunny will hop into Virginia Center Commons Mall, 10101 Brook Rd., for children with special needs and their families on Sunday, April 1 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the JCPenney Court. The event will be held prior to the mall opening, so that accommodations can be made to support the sensory, physical and other developmental needs of all guests.
Caring Bunny is a joint program developed by The Noerr Programs, the digital imaging company that provides the Bunny Photo Experience for malls nationwide and AbilityPath.org, a national online resource hub and special needs community. }

Michael and Bevin Kehoe (left) and Ruth and Franco Ambrogi (of Franco’s Fine Clothiers) were among the more than 200 guests at the 38th Annual Little Sisters of the Poor Benefit Dinner Feb. 9 at the Commonwealth Club in downtown Richmond. The evening’s entertainment was provided by the Little Sisters themselves, who serenaded the dinner guests with humor and music, accompanied by Sr. Jeanne Emmanuel’s guitar. The event raised almost $169,000 in support of the Little Sisters’ mission.}

Men and women alike kicked up their stilettos, pumps and platforms at Central Virginia’s debut of the Komen High Heel Dash, held March 10 at the Shops at Innsbrook. Hosted by the Central Virginia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the event featured a 50-yard dash for participants, who wore creative costumes with their heels of choice to vie for the honor of “best dressed” as well as fastest.}

The Rotary Club of Innsbrook recently awarded its Business Leader of the Year award to Don Stevens, owner of Stevens Jewelers.
Stevens supports numerous philanthropic organizations, including Commonwealth Catholic Charities, Coal Pit Learning Center in Western Henrico, the Virginia Home for Boys and Girls and the Circle of Peace School in Uganda.}

The Kinder Morgan Foundation recently donated $2,500 to the Virginia Home for Boys and Girls in Henrico. The money will fund the Vocational-Educational Partnership Program at the John G. Wood alternative school at the home, which is designed to fill the gap between classroom knowledge, job training and real life experiences that employers demand. }
The "Knitters of Cedarfield" made their annual donation of knitted caps to the Henrico Christmas Mother Dec. 5 at The Hermitage at Cedarfield, presenting 110 caps to be used by needy families.
The gift presentation was followed by a program of holiday music, performed by members of the Greater Richmond Chorus, who chose Cedarfield resident Russell Johnston as the impromptu subject of their affections during a "Santa Baby" number. }
Henrico Division of Recreation and Parks will host the Mountain Road Corridor Holiday Celebration on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. beginning at the Courtney Road Service Station, 3401 Mountain Rd., and ending at Meadow Farm Museum, 3400 Mountain Rd. All events are free.}

At 9 a.m. this morning, Salvation Army musician Matt Sims kicked off the annual Red Kettle Campaign at Short Pump Town Center with bells and music. He will play for 36 hours, ending at 9 p.m. Nov. 12. The feat of playing 36 consecutive hours has never before been attempted by any Salvation Army musician. The idea came to him in late summer as he was thinking of ways to increase awareness for the Red Kettle Campaign at a time when donations to The Salvation Army are more important than ever. }
