Whether you’re an oenophile, a Hokie fan or just looking for fun, the Central Virginia Wine Festival is the place to be.

The annual event will be held May 12 at the SnagAJob Pavilion at Innsbrook.

“It’s a fantastic, fun atmosphere,” said Michael Eck, founder and chairman of the event.

This year’s event will showcase 15 wineries from around the Commonwealth, feature live music, food and arts and crafts vendors. And, of course, there will be plenty of Virginia wine (and also beer).

Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen to Present ‘Illumina’

The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen will offer “Illumina,” a holiday exhibition of various traditional and non-traditional Christmas trees each with their own theme for families to enjoy starting Dec. 4 – Dec. 30. The exhibit will showcase 16 trees on the first floor of the center, designed by Yvonne Hopkins, a local resident who offered to give her creations to the center for the public. The trees will have different colors, ornaments, lights and other items that make up a certain theme.}

Workforce Hero Moves In

Tim Lukhard (center), who with his wife Joy is Parham Estate’s newest homeowner, was officially welcomed into the neighborhood Nov. 10 with a housewarming gift from Carter Snipes (left) and Annie Snipes of Snipes Preferred Properties. A firefighter, Lukhard was able to take advantage of special “workforce hero” closing cost incentives that were the subject of a 2009 Henrico Citizen story about affordable housing innovations.}

‘Relay for Life’ Volunteers Sought

The American Cancer Society and its Western Henrico committee members are seeking volunteers in the surrounding areas to assist with the 2011 Relay for Life. The committee is responsible for organizing the event, recruiting fundraising teams, garnering community support, coordinating logistics, planning entertainment and seeking donations to ensure the continued success of Relay For Life. }

Garden Plastics Recycling Event Planned Nov. 13

The Henrico County Extension Office is encouraging fall gardeners to recycle their nursery plastics as part of a special effort on Saturday, Nov. 13 at Strange's Garden Center.}

‘Scouting for Food’ Underway

Last weekend, more than 10,000 Boy Scouts and volunteers dropped off specially marked grocery bags to thousands of Central Virginia homes for the 23rd annual “Scouting For Food” drive to benefit hungry neighbors in the region. }

Western Henrico Rotary Club Golf Tournament Raises $24,500

The Western Henrico Rotary Club raised more than $24,500 for scholarships at the annual Becky Briggs Memorial Golf Tournament on Columbus Day at the Crossings Golf Course – the most it has ever raised through the event. The tournament is named after a 17-year-old senior at Mary Mount High School, who was killed in an automobile accident in 1990. Her father is a member of the Western Henrico Rotary Club.
