Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden’s New Year’s Eve Family Frolic will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the garden, 1800 Lakeside Ave. There will be family activities with live entertainment and crafts. The Children’s Museum of Richmond-Short Pump, 2200 Old Brick Rd. in West Broad Village, will host a New Year’s Eve Bash for children and their families from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be games and giveaways and a “countdown to noon” celebration with a special juice box toast. ComedySportz Improv Theatre will present two New Year’s Eve shows at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. The earlier show is designed for the younger family and will include a milk toast with Twinkies at 9 p.m. The later show will have a champagne toast at midnight. Celebrate New Year’s Eve with the Richmond Folk Music Society, featuring Deb Clinton and friends, at 8 p.m. at Congregation Or Ami, 9400 Huguenot Rd. There will be assorted tunes from the golden years of the American and Yiddish theater, along with old favorites from The Great American Songbook. The concert-only price is $15 in advance and $18 at the door and includes dessert and coffee at intermission. Dinner and concert are $28. Reservations for dinner are needed by Dec. 26. GayRVA.com’s A-List New Year’s Eve Party will begin at 10 p.m. at Aloft Richmond West, 3939 Duckling Dr. in West Broad Village. DJ Ease and Dead Fame will provide entertainment. A $25 ticket includes a dessert and champagne toast. A VIP package is available for those who wish to stay overnight in the hotel. The cost is $150 for two and includes an open bar from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and complimentary breakfast on New Year’s Day. Space is limited; tickets will not be available at the door. Theatre IV’s production of “A Year with Frog and Toad” ends today. The story follows two great friends, the cheerful and popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad, through four fun-filled seasons. Along the way they learn life lessons including a most important one about friendship and rejoicing in the attributes that make each of us different and special. The show lasts approximately two hours with an intermission and is recommended for ages four and older. Performances are held at Barksdale Theatre, located at 1601 Willow Lawn Dr. at the Shops at Willow Lawn. Tickets are $18 to $24. Radio Disney will host a “Noon Year’s Eve” celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Science Museum of Virginia, 2500 W. Broad St. There will be a special countdown to noon balloon drop with an apple juice toast, music, games and prizes. Guests can also experience the Anthem Get Active Get Fit Dance Party and see the premiere of the IMAX film “Born to be Wild.” Noon Year’s Eve is included with museum admission; IMAX is additional. Michael Arad, the architect of the World Trade Center Memorial, will be the keynote speaker for The 2016 Adolf-Adams JCC Forum on Sat., Jan. 30, 2016 at 7:30 p.m., at the Carole and Marcus Weinstein Jewish Community Center in Henrico.
Arad’s “Reflecting Absence” architectural design was selected from more than 5,000 competitive entries as the template for the Memorial’s construction in New York City. During the forum, Arad will discuss the significance and symbolism of the design, as well as his inspiration. The event, which is a highlight of the Weinstein JCC’s Patron of the Arts series, is open to the public > Read more.

The Sixth Annual RVA Environmental Film Festival (RVA EFF) will be held Feb. 1-7, 2016 at various locations, including in Henrico County.
A partnership of The Enrichmond Foundation, Capital Region Land Conservancy, Chesapeake Climate Action Network, and Falls of the James Group - Sierra Club, the festival will feature a number of insightful films designed to raise awareness of environmental issues relative to all residents of the planet and Richmond citizens in particular.
A detailed schedule will be released at a time closer to the festival, but the popular children's portion has been set for Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Byrd Theatre in Carytown. > Read more.
