Henricus Historical Park, 251 Henricus Park Rd., will host a causal reception for patrons to recognize the arrival of Godspeed from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The event will feature a re-enactment of Sir Thomas Dale’s dramatic landing in 1611 by the all-volunteer Henricus Militia commanded by Dennis Strawderman prior to Godspeed’s arrival. A barbeque buffet will be served, accompanied by popular bluegrass and English ballads featuring Kelly Kennedy & Friends. The Patriot’s Day 2011 Memorial Celebration will be held from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. rain or shine at the Lakeside Moose Family Center #1714, 1207 Hilliard Rd. Active and retired military, national guard and reservists, fire fighters, police officers, EMS and other volunteer and career first responders will be in attendance. “Hurricane Base” will provide entertainment and there will be food and beverages for purchase from Roma Ristorante Italiano and Nader’s Bistro and Grill. The 7th Annual Free-For-All High School Marching Band Demonstration will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at J.R. Tucker High School, 2910 N. Parham Rd. The Free-For-All is a non-competitive show that includes a workshop with actual judges. It is designed to be engaging for the students, but with an eye towards the VBODA Marching Band Assessment. The 15th annual Glen Allen Day will begin with a parade at 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of John Cussons and Mountain Roads. To commemorate its 400th anniversary, this special event will feature 100 living history interpreters portraying both English colonists and native inhabitants of circa 1611 Virginia. Interpreters will occupy the English city, the Indian site Arrohateck, and 17th-century ship replica Godspeed from Jamestown Settlement, and will demonstrate the commercial, mechanical, agricultural, domestic, and military skills of both cultures as would have been observed between the years 1611-1622. DiggityFest, a family music festival, will be held from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Westchester Commons, off Rt. 288 in Midlothian. Three of Richmond’s biggest family entertainers, The Diggity Dudes, Silly Bus and Hope Harris & The Cousins Jamboree, will perform with Grammy award-winning artist Dan Zanes. There will also be hands-on activities provided by Romp ‘n Roll and the Primrose School, as well as roving entertainment and food and drink for purchase. Proceeds will benefit Connor’s Heroes, a local nonprofit helping to ease the burdens of childhood cancer. Tickets for ages 13 and older are $17 in advance and $20 at the door.
