HATTheatre will present “Home for Christmas” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7-8, 4 p.m. Dec. 8 and at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 9. The musical tells the story of a family who, having lost their husband and father, are celebrating their first Christmas without him. When the children happen upon the homeless Kate, they decide it would be a wonderful idea to invite her for Christmas dinner. Mom disagrees. The play contrasts the bustling commercialism of the holiday with the plight of the homeless. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $10 for youth/students. The Gayton Kirk, 11421 Gayton Rd., will present Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” at 7 p.m. In this one-person show, actor Ray Carver will play all the characters from Scrooge to the ghosts, to the whole Cratchit family, including Tiny Tim – over 30 different characters in all. The performance is “pay what you want” – audience members can name their ticket price. A nursery is available for children five and under. The Richmond Men’s Chorus and Richmond Women’s Chorus will present “Great Joy” at 8 p.m. Dec. 8 and at 4 p.m. Dec. 9 at Ginter Park Presbyterian Church, 3601 Seminary Ave. Each chorus will perform individually and also combine to present seasonal favorites. The 27th annual Toys for Tots 5k will take place at 1 p.m. in The Shoppes at Innsbrook. The race fee is $10 or participants can donate a toy valued at $10. Chabad of Virginia will host Chanukah on Ice, a community event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Skatenation Plus, 4350 Pouncey Tract Rd. ‘Proof of Heaven’ coming to Glen Allen


Dr. Even Alexander, a New York Times best-selling author who has been featured on Oprah and Dr. Oz, was in town last week to promote his June 27 talk, "Proof of Heaven," at Glen Allen High School.

Alexander (pictured, at right, while Unity of Bon Air church member Harry Simmons interviews him) has written about what he considers to be his journey through the afterlife.

Tickets to this month's event are $25 and will support the new Bon Secours Hospice House being built later this year. > Read more.

Innsbrook Rotary celebrates 25 years


The Innsbrook Rotary Club, which is celebrating its 25th year in 2015, has completed a number of volunteer projects this year and raised thousands of dollars for various organizations through three events.

The club's annual rose sale, benefit for youth live auction and Virginia Fire Games competition, combined with individual and corporate donations, have raised nearly $70,000 – money that the club contributes back to the community.

FeedMore is the beneficiary of the club's 25th anniversary project, which provides refrigerated trailers to be used for the distribution of food throughout Central Virginia. > Read more.

Voltaggio to host three-course dinners at Family Meal July 21-22

Chef Bryan Voltaggio will host a special three-course dinner event July 21-22 at his Willow Lawn Family Meal restaurant. The menu will consist of his favorite dishes and offer diners the chance to purchase a signed copy of his newly released book, HOME.
