Gayton Baptist Church, 13501 N. Gayton Rd., will present Jazz Nativity, three evenings of classy jazz featuring David Esleck, at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 to Dec. 2 and at 4 p.m. Dec. 1-2. The Henrico Theatre Company will present the opening night of “A Christmas Story” at 8 p.m. at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, 2880 Mountain Rd. All of the elements from the beloved motion picture are here in this joyous celebration of childhood. The production continues through Dec. 16. The Shady Grove Coffeehouse will continue its 12th season with folk singer Mary McCaslin at 8 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church, 11105 Cauthorne Rd. The annual Mountain Road Corridor Holiday Celebration will begin at noon at the historic Courtney Road Service Station, 3401 Mountain Rd. Walkerton Tavern, 2892 Mountain Rd., will hold an open house from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The 14th annual Tree Lighting at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, 2880 Mountain Rd., will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. There will be holiday music, a toasty bonfire, hot chocolate, cookies and Santa, who will make his arrival via fire truck to light the 60-foot cedar tree. The debut bout of RAWFL (Richmond Arm Wrestling for Ladies), an arm wrestling league that combines philanthropy with theatricality and good old badassery, will take place at 7 p.m. at Balliceaux, 203 N. Lombardy St. Admission is $8 and includes a handful of RAWFL bucks for “betting.” Proceeds benefit Studio Two Three and Henrico-based Safe Harbor. Local couple wins wedding at Lewis Ginter


Richmonders Jim Morgan and Dan Stackhouse were married at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Lakeside Mar. 7 month after winning the Say I Do! With OutRVA wedding contest in February. The contest was open to LGBT couples in recognition of Virginia’s marriage equality law, which took effect last fall. The wedding included a package valued at $25,000.

Morgan and Stackhouse, who became engaged last fall on the day marriage equality became the law in Virginia, have been together for 16 years. They were selected from among 40 couples who registered for the contest. The winners were announced at the Say I Do! Dessert Soiree at the Renaissance in Richmond in February. > Read more.

Fourth-annual Healy Gala planned


The Fourth Annual Healy Gala will be held Saturday, Apr. 11, at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The event was created to honor Michael Healy, a local businessman and community leader who died suddenly in June 2011, and to endow the Mike Healy Scholarship (through the Glen Allen Ruritan Club), which benefits students of Glen Allen High School.

Healy served as the chairman of Glen Allen Day for several years and helped raise thousands of dollars for local charities and organizations. > Read more.
