The Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond will present a holiday concert with Dailey & Vincent at 7:30 p.m. in Camp Concert Hall, Booker Hall of Music. This bluegrass duo, featuring Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent, joined forces in 2007. A post-show reception will follow in the Booth Lobby. Tickets are $36. Gayton Baptist Church, 13501 N. Gayton Rd., will present Jazz Nativity, three evenings of classy jazz featuring David Esleck, at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 to Dec. 2 and at 4 p.m. Dec. 1-2. Proceeds from Jazz Nativity, now in its fourth year, will benefit Feed My Starving Children. Gourmet coffee and desserts will be available. Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for kids 11 and younger. The Henrico Theatre Company will present the opening night of “A Christmas Story” at 8 p.m. at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, 2880 Mountain Rd. All of the elements from the beloved motion picture are here in this joyous celebration of childhood. The production continues through Dec. 16. All performances are at 8 p.m. except for Sunday matinees, which begin at 2:30 p.m. An additional matinee will be held Dec. 15. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. The Shady Grove Coffeehouse will continue its 12th season with folk singer Mary McCaslin at 8 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church, 11105 Cauthorne Rd. The annual Mountain Road Corridor Holiday Celebration will begin at noon at the historic Courtney Road Service Station, 3401 Mountain Rd. Walkerton Tavern, 2892 Mountain Rd., will hold an open house from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The 14th annual Tree Lighting at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, 2880 Mountain Rd., will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. There will be holiday music, a toasty bonfire, hot chocolate, cookies and Santa, who will make his arrival via fire truck to light the 60-foot cedar tree. My Manakin Market’s Holiday Market will take place in an enclosed Marquee tent from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 68 Broad Street Rd. in Manakin Sabot, five minutes west of Short Pump. Michael Arad, the architect of the World Trade Center Memorial, will be the keynote speaker for The 2016 Adolf-Adams JCC Forum on Sat., Jan. 30, 2016 at 7:30 p.m., at the Carole and Marcus Weinstein Jewish Community Center in Henrico.
Arad’s “Reflecting Absence” architectural design was selected from more than 5,000 competitive entries as the template for the Memorial’s construction in New York City. During the forum, Arad will discuss the significance and symbolism of the design, as well as his inspiration. The Sixth Annual RVA Environmental Film Festival (RVA EFF) will be held Feb. 1-7, 2016 at various locations, including in Henrico County.
A partnership of The Enrichmond Foundation, Capital Region Land Conservancy, Chesapeake Climate Action Network, and Falls of the James Group - Sierra Club, the festival will feature a number of insightful films designed to raise awareness of environmental issues relative to all residents of the planet and Richmond citizens in particular.
A detailed schedule will be released at a time closer to the festival, but the popular children's portion has been set for Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Byrd Theatre in Carytown. > Read more.
