Nearly three dozen Lakeside Avenue merchants will host the eighth annual Holly Jolly Christmas event Nov. 9-10. Shoppers will be able to take free trolley rides to and from shops along the avenue from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 9 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 10. Participating shops will stay open late, and many will offer special deals for holiday shoppers. All participating businesses also will have special containers to collect donations for the Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad, the event's beneficiary. On Nov. 10, Nutzy, the Richmond Flying Squirrels' mascot, will appear at the Lakeside Farmers' market from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and an antique car display will be held at the site of the Lakeside Community Christmas Tree, between Hilliard Road and Dumbarton Road. The University of Richmond continues its fall International Film Series with “Elena” at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9 and at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Robins School of Business, Ukrop Auditorium. “Elena” is a gripping modern twist on the classic noir thriller. Celebrate what makes Virginia special at Taste The Local, being held from noon to 7 p.m. at West Broad Village, 2005 Liesfield Pkwy. in Short Pump. Marshall St., will host Art for All Ages from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. A silent auction of affordable works of art from local artists will benefit frail or functionally impaired older adults and their caregivers. New Castle Productions, featuring local actors ages 5-60, will present “Man of Honor” at 1 p.m. at Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Rd. “Man of Honor” tells the story of Second Lt. Henry Ossian Flipper, the first African American to graduate from West Point and become an officer in the US Army. He received this honor in 1877 and within only four years, he was falsely accused and put on trial for a crime he did not commit. Tickets are $10 to $25. Ages 11-13 are invited to a workshop on the basic techniques of archery from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Deep Run Recreation Center, 9900 Ridgefield Pkwy. Compound bows will be used and the course will be taught according to NASP specifications. A session for seniors age 50+ will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and a session for ages 14-17 will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Equipment is provided. Appropriate for beginners. Cost is $6. Henrico CASA and Susan's Selections are partnering to present an online auction beginning Sept 12. Proceeds will benefit Henrico CASA. Any item with a $50 or more resale value – from pottery to furniture and everything in between – can be donated.

The 10th Annual Filipino Festival will be held Aug. 7-8 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 8200 Woodman Rd., beginning with opening ceremonies at 5 p.m. Friday and continuing with live entertainment, food and exhibits until 10 p.m. On Saturday the festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a full schedule of performances featuring traditional Filipino dance, music and song.
Filipino cuisine, including BBQ, pansit, lumpia, adobo, halo-halo, lechon, empanada and leche flan, will be available for purchase. The festival will also feature a children's area, church tours, exhibits, and health screenings. > Read more.
Innsbrook After Hours will welcome ZZ Top, The Beach Boys, O.A.R. and other performers this month.
On Aug. 12, Tyler Farr, with special guest Parmalee, will perform at 6 p.m., with gates opening at 5 p.m. Farr began his career with years of formal voice training with the OAKE National Choir but at 21, he moved to Nashville. Tickets are $15 to $99.
