The Bifocals Players, shows starring actors age 55 and older, will present “No Deposit, No Return” at 2 p.m. at Virginia Rep’s Children’s Theatre at Willow Lawn, 1601 Willow Lawn Dr. The show is written and directed by local playwright Jay Morehouse. The Craftsmen’s Classic Art & Craft Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 26, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 27 and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 28. The show features original designs and work from hundreds of talented artists and craftspeople from across the nation. There is something for every style, taste and budget with items from the most traditional to the most contemporary. The University of Richmond continues its fall International Film Series with “Amador” at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26 in Jepson Hall, Room 118, and at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Robins School of Business, Ukrop Auditorium. Eastern Henrico FISH will host a benefit concert at 6:30 p.m. at Fort Lee Baptist Church, 2727 Charles City Rd. Churchyard Grass and other local talents will perform. FISH is a nonprofit organization supported by local churches dedicated to providing assistance to families in Eastern Henrico who have short term emergencies. The Center Season at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen continues with “The Return” at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. This Beatles tribute band will take the audience on a journey back to the 1960s, a time when the Fab Four dominated the music charts. Henrico County will host the grand re-opening of Elko Community Center from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Built in 1924 the center was the meeting place for the Windsor Club of Elko. During World War II the Elko community gained some historical significance when the U.S. military converted part of the Elko Tract into a decoy airfield in an effort to secure Byrd Airport. Take a tour of the newly renovated facility and listen to the tunes of Churchyard Grass. The center is located at 6216 White Oak Rd. in Sandston. Team Absolute, a local “modern custom” automotive club, will host the first annual Kids Come First Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the parking lot of Quaker Steak & Lube, 8000 W. Broad St. There will be 60 trophies and specialty awards presented. Registration is $20 in advance and $25 at the gate. Entertainment will include a stunt rider, cornhole tournament, live DJ, raffles and more. Funds raised will support the Children’s Hospital Foundation. Admission is free. The Latin Ballet of Virginia will present “Volver” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27 and at 3 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, 2880 Mountain Rd. Based on the real life of the former treasurer of the U.S. Anna Cabral, this dance theatre work reflects “Chicano” identity and its culture. FETCH a Cure will present the second annual Mutt Strutt from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Deep Run Park, 9900 Ridgefield Pkwy. Funds raised will help families seeking cancer treatment for their pets and to further FETCH a Cure’s awareness and education programs. The Varina Ruritan Club celebrated its 80th anniversary with a banquet Nov. 10, during which it presented several annual awards, including Policeman of the Year – to Henrico Officer Aaron M. Lancaster (top) – and Firefighter of the Year – to Julian T. Lipscomb (second from top).
The club also received a plaque from the Henrico Division of Fire (third from top) expressing the division's appreciation for the club and its support of fire prevention programs. > Read more.
The grand opening of The Rink outdoor ice skating rink at West Broad Village will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, beginning at 11 a.m. with skating and family activities. At 4 p.m., grand opening festivities – featuring exhibitions of ice sculpting, ice skating and cheering, as well as fire pits, costumed characters, and food vendors – will begin. Skating costs are $8 for children and $10 for adults, with $4 skate rentals available. Parking is free. The Rink is located at 3939 Duckling Drive, Glen Allen.
