The 4th Annual Richmond Folk Festival will be held along downtown Richmond’s historic riverfront from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 14, 12 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 15 and from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 16. The festival celebrates the roots, richness and variety of American culture through music, dance, traditional crafts, storytelling and food. There will be more than 25 performing groups on seven stages. The festival also features a children’s area with activities, games, a petting zoo and live music. Admission is free. Henrico Recreation and Parks will host the grand opening and dedication ceremony of the county’s first off-leash dog park from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Dorey Park, 2999 Darbytown Rd. The park is approximately one acre in size and has a five-foot enclosed fence with two areas – one for small dogs and one for larger dogs – that features a double gated entry with mulch and a sod play surface. Dogs will enjoy new exercise play equipment, a doggie water fountain and spray features. Dogs of all shapes, sizes and pedigrees are welcome. Hours are from dusk till dawn. Henrico County’s annual Harvest Festival will be held from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Meadow Farm, 3400 Mountain Rd. There will be hands-on activities and demonstrations depicting typical homemaking and farming tasks of the era such as cider making, candle dipping, bee keeping, cornhusking and shelling, blacksmithing, woodworking and more. Other highlights include pony rides, a petting zoo, tethered hot air balloon rides, the Great Pumpkin Patch of Meadow Farm (ages 3-12), gourd decorating and performances by A Good Natured Riot and the Barbara Martin Band. The Reality Rescue II Festival will be held from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Sharky’s Courtyard, 4032-A Cox Rd. Over 100 reality stars from shows like Survivor, American Idol, Big Brother, The Mole, The Amazing Race, The Bachelorette, Expedition Impossible and more will be in attendance. Proceeds will benefit Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, an all-breed dog rescue group from Wheeler County, Ga., that suffered a devastating fire in April. Tickets are $50.
