Coordinators2inc, a nonprofit lifetime adoption resource located in Henrico, will hold its fifth annual golf tournament at 8 a.m. at The Crossings Golf Club in Glen Allen. The event will include practice range balls, 18 holes of golf with a cart, lunch, beverage tickets, prizes and more. Hilliard House will host “Harvesting the Grape” from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at James River Cellars Winery, 11008 Washington Hwy. in Glen Allen. The National Alliance on Mental Illness will host NAMIWalks Virginia at 9 a.m. at 4951 Lake Brook Dr. in Innsbrook. This family and community event hopes to raise awareness, educate people about mental illness and celebrate hope and wellness. The 5K walk will begin at 10:30 a.m. Registration is free but walkers are encouraged to fundraise. Lakeside Avenue’s first ever outdoor music festival “Jammin’ on the Ave” will start at 11 a.m. at the corner of Lakeside Avenue and Clarke Street. The Five and Dimers, Cha-Cha’s Cadillac and Roadkill Roy will provide entertainment. There will be a moon bounce and face painting for the kids, as well as vendors, food and beer. Admission is a $5 donation to Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad.
The Henrico High School 50th Anniversary Warrior Jubilee Celebration will begin at 8 a.m. with a 5K run/walk at the school. A special program of art, music and dance, at which many of the school’s original and former faculty will be recognized, will be held at 11 a.m. in the auditorium. Author David Baldacci and “Tonight Show” comedian Brett Leake will speak. The festivities will conclude with catered dining in the school’s cafeterias, a display of school memorabilia and tours of the Henrico High School campus. The Pamunkey River Garden Club will meet at 10:30 a.m. at Shady Grove United Methodist Church, 8209 Shady Grove Rd., in rooms 111-113. The Richmond Audubon Society will give a presentation on Backyard Birding. Members will display horticulture from their gardens and their own creative floral designs for judging. All are welcome. The Sophie House will host a community family event and ribbon cutting at its new community center located at 11220 Nuckols Rd. Tour the new center and learn how Sophie House provides supportive services for single women and their children. Richmonders Jim Morgan and Dan Stackhouse were married at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Lakeside Mar. 7 month after winning the Say I Do! With OutRVA wedding contest in February. The contest was open to LGBT couples in recognition of Virginia’s marriage equality law, which took effect last fall. The wedding included a package valued at $25,000.
Morgan and Stackhouse, who became engaged last fall on the day marriage equality became the law in Virginia, have been together for 16 years. They were selected from among 40 couples who registered for the contest. The winners were announced at the Say I Do! Dessert Soiree at the Renaissance in Richmond in February. > Read more.
The Fourth Annual Healy Gala will be held Saturday, Apr. 11, at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The event was created to honor Michael Healy, a local businessman and community leader who died suddenly in June 2011, and to endow the Mike Healy Scholarship (through the Glen Allen Ruritan Club), which benefits students of Glen Allen High School.
Healy served as the chairman of Glen Allen Day for several years and helped raise thousands of dollars for local charities and organizations. > Read more.
