Coordinators2inc, a nonprofit lifetime adoption resource located in Henrico, will hold its fifth annual golf tournament at 8 a.m. at The Crossings Golf Club in Glen Allen. The event will include practice range balls, 18 holes of golf with a cart, lunch, beverage tickets, prizes and more. The National Alliance on Mental Illness will host NAMIWalks Virginia at 9 a.m. at 4951 Lake Brook Dr. in Innsbrook. This family and community event hopes to raise awareness, educate people about mental illness and celebrate hope and wellness. The 5K walk will begin at 10:30 a.m. Registration is free but walkers are encouraged to fundraise. Lakeside Avenue’s first ever outdoor music festival “Jammin’ on the Ave” will start at 11 a.m. at the corner of Lakeside Avenue and Clarke Street. The Five and Dimers, Cha-Cha’s Cadillac and Roadkill Roy will provide entertainment. There will be a moon bounce and face painting for the kids, as well as vendors, food and beer. Admission is a $5 donation to Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad.

The Henrico High School 50th Anniversary Warrior Jubilee Celebration will begin at 8 a.m. with a 5K run/walk at the school. A special program of art, music and dance, at which many of the school’s original and former faculty will be recognized, will be held at 11 a.m. in the auditorium. Author David Baldacci and “Tonight Show” comedian Brett Leake will speak. The festivities will conclude with catered dining in the school’s cafeterias, a display of school memorabilia and tours of the Henrico High School campus. The Pamunkey River Garden Club will meet at 10:30 a.m. at Shady Grove United Methodist Church, 8209 Shady Grove Rd., in rooms 111-113. Jewish a cappella groups Six13 and the Maccabeats will perform at 3:30 p.m. in Richmond Camp Concert Hall at the University of Richmond. 10th annual Filipino Festival coming in August


The 10th Annual Filipino Festival will be held Aug. 7-8 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 8200 Woodman Rd., beginning with opening ceremonies at 5 p.m. Friday and continuing with live entertainment, food and exhibits until 10 p.m. On Saturday the festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a full schedule of performances featuring traditional Filipino dance, music and song.

Filipino cuisine, including BBQ, pansit, lumpia, adobo, halo-halo, lechon, empanada and leche flan, will be available for purchase. The festival will also feature a children's area, church tours, exhibits, and health screenings. > Read more.

CMoR reopens at new Short Pump site

The Children’s Museum of Richmond last week opened its new Short Pump location at Short Pump Town Center, to the delight of children who attended a sneak preview of the location July 10. The new facility, located under the forthcoming LL Bean store (formerly the food court) is 8,500 square feet in size – much larger than CMoR’s former Short Pump location at West Broad Village, which opened in 2010. The new space includes The CarMax Foundation Service Station, the Silver Diner, a grocery store, a performance stage and an art studio, as well as a giant Light Bright Wall. > Read more.

The Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Henrico Police are both presenting community events tomorrow, Aug. 1. The Feria Community Resource Fair at Richmond International Raceway brings together community service providers, embassies/consulates from Latin American countries, government agencies, nonprofit organizations and corporations that impact the Latino community. The Division of Police’s Community Day will feature demonstrations and displays from police, fire, animal protection and sheriff’s office, as well as family activities, food, entertainment and more.
