The 54th annual Armenian Food Festival will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 21-22 and from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 23 at St. James Armenian Church, 834 Pepper Ave. Authentic Armenian dishes like stuffed grape leaves, bulghur salad and Armenian green beans, and signature pastries such as simit (tea cookie), bourma (rolled philo filled with walnuts) and khourabia (sweet cookie) will be available for purchase. Crossroads Art Center, 2016 Staples Mill Rd., will hold its September Indoor Artwalk and Artist Reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitors will learn from the artists what inspires them to create their works of art. The Chrysalis Group will hold its Autumnal Equinox Labyrinth Walk from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Chrysalis Outdoor Labyrinth, located on the grounds of Union Theological Seminary. An ancient, mystical tool, the labyrinth is used by many cultures and religious traditions. Participants should allow 45-60 minutes for the experience. Admission is free but donations are welcome. The Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond will show an encore presentation of National Theatre Live’s “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” at 7:30 p.m. This new production offers a richly theatrical exploration of the touching and bleakly humorous novel by Mark Haddon and will be broadcast from the National’s smallest theatre, the Cottesloe. The League of Women Voters Richmond Metropolitan Area will hold a League Day from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Tuckahoe Library, 1901 Starling Dr. Charles Judd, chairman of the State Board of Elections, will speak on the new voter ID laws and changes that have been made. Local couple wins wedding at Lewis Ginter


Richmonders Jim Morgan and Dan Stackhouse were married at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Lakeside Mar. 7 month after winning the Say I Do! With OutRVA wedding contest in February. The contest was open to LGBT couples in recognition of Virginia’s marriage equality law, which took effect last fall. The wedding included a package valued at $25,000.

Morgan and Stackhouse, who became engaged last fall on the day marriage equality became the law in Virginia, have been together for 16 years. They were selected from among 40 couples who registered for the contest. The winners were announced at the Say I Do! Dessert Soiree at the Renaissance in Richmond in February. > Read more.

Fourth-annual Healy Gala planned


The Fourth Annual Healy Gala will be held Saturday, Apr. 11, at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The event was created to honor Michael Healy, a local businessman and community leader who died suddenly in June 2011, and to endow the Mike Healy Scholarship (through the Glen Allen Ruritan Club), which benefits students of Glen Allen High School.

Healy served as the chairman of Glen Allen Day for several years and helped raise thousands of dollars for local charities and organizations. > Read more.
