The 54th annual Armenian Food Festival will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 21-22 and from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 23 at St. James Armenian Church, 834 Pepper Ave. Authentic Armenian dishes like stuffed grape leaves, bulghur salad and Armenian green beans, and signature pastries such as simit (tea cookie), bourma (rolled philo filled with walnuts) and khourabia (sweet cookie) will be available for purchase. The Interfaith Council of Greater Richmond will host the International Day of Peace from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Unity of Richmond, 800 Blanton Ave. The theme is “Sustainable Peace for a Sustainable Future.” There will be prayers for peace from world faiths, a peace pole dedication, dancing, a peace picnic and a food drive collection for FeedMore. Crossroads Art Center, 2016 Staples Mill Rd., will hold its September Indoor Artwalk and Artist Reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitors will learn from the artists what inspires them to create their works of art. Featured artists include Kate McConnell and Duane Cregger, as well as artists participating in the Virginia Collage Society Show. Casey McCue and Steve Duncan will provide music. The Chrysalis Group will hold its Autumnal Equinox Labyrinth Walk from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Chrysalis Outdoor Labyrinth, located on the grounds of Union Theological Seminary. An ancient, mystical tool, the labyrinth is used by many cultures and religious traditions. Participants should allow 45-60 minutes for the experience. Admission is free but donations are welcome. The Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond will show an encore presentation of National Theatre Live’s “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” at 7:30 p.m. This new production offers a richly theatrical exploration of the touching and bleakly humorous novel by Mark Haddon and will be broadcast from the National’s smallest theatre, the Cottesloe. The League of Women Voters Richmond Metropolitan Area will hold a League Day from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Tuckahoe Library, 1901 Starling Dr. Charles Judd, chairman of the State Board of Elections, will speak on the new voter ID laws and changes that have been made. Members will share information about their electronic election voters guide and answer questions. The public is invited. Admission is free. The Children’s Museum of Richmond and HCA Virginia will host Family Fun Fest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the HCA VA West Creek Emergency Center, 12720 Tuckahoe Creek Ct. Visit with Sesame Street’s Elmo, tour a fire truck, helicopter and ambulance, and meet with local EMS and fire fighters. There will also be magic with Mysteriosos Magicians, Nutzy of the Richmond Flying Squirrels, arts and crafts, music from Radio Disney, healthy snacks and more. Admission is free. The J.R. Tucker High School Marching Tigers will host the Free-For-All 8 High School Marching Band Demonstration from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Tucker, 2910 N. Parham Rd. Varina Ruritans honor police, fire officials and community members

The Varina Ruritan Club celebrated its 80th anniversary with a banquet Nov. 10, during which it presented several annual awards, including Policeman of the Year – to Henrico Officer Aaron M. Lancaster (top) – and Firefighter of the Year – to Julian T. Lipscomb (second from top).

The club also received a plaque from the Henrico Division of Fire (third from top) expressing the division's appreciation for the club and its support of fire prevention programs. > Read more.

The Rink to open at WBV Nov. 14

The grand opening of The Rink outdoor ice skating rink at West Broad Village will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, beginning at 11 a.m. with skating and family activities. At 4 p.m., grand opening festivities – featuring exhibitions of ice sculpting, ice skating and cheering, as well as fire pits, costumed characters, and food vendors – will begin. Skating costs are $8 for children and $10 for adults, with $4 skate rentals available. Parking is free. The Rink is located at 3939 Duckling Drive, Glen Allen.
