The 2012 Kirk Festival at Gayton Kirk Presbyterian Church, 11421 Gayton Rd., will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Virginia Scots Guard Pipes and Drum Corp. and Jonathan Austin, magician and juggler, will perform. There will also be Celtic music, dancers, Scottish games, vendors, food, an iPad raffle and more. An animal blessing and parade will be held at 3 p.m. Rain date is Sept. 15. Admission is free. The McShin Foundation’s annual Recovery Fest and state championship BBQ Cook Off will be held from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church, 2300 Dumbarton Rd. Bikes, BBQ and Bluegrass, a family-friendly community event to benefit Richmond 2015, will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the West Creek Business Park, 12575 West Creek Pkwy. The event will feature local barbecue, live music by East of Afton and local brews from Starr Hill Brewery. Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.

The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.

Veteran restaurateur set to open in Short Pump

Tran’s Pho 1 Grill will serve Vietnamese fare
After nearly a year out of the restaurant industry, a well known 30-year Henrico restaurateur is ready to open up his fifth venture in Short Pump.

Paul Tran, along with his wife Ellen will open up Pho 1 Grill, a Vietnamese restaurant, in June in the Towne Center West Shopping Center.

Tran has been serving up Vietnamese food since the mid-’80s, his first being Que Huong on Rigsby Road. He also owned Mr. Chan’s on Horsepen Road and Saigon Gourmet on Hull Street Road. > Read more.

Popular Short Pump spot offers upscale comfort, flavors
The Wine Loft opened in West Broad Village in January 2010, offering a full bar with wine, beer, spirits and a kitchen with tapas-style snacks. It offers a seasonal patio area along Whittall Way. Its walk-in wine “humidor” in plain view from the bar offers more than 85 wines by the glass ($6-$65) and about 250 by the bottle ($28 and up), with some emphasis on Italian wines.
