The Butterflies LIVE exhibit continues through October 14 at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, 1800 Lakeside Ave. Visitors will be able to walk among hundreds of butterflies in the North Wing of the Conservatory. The exhibit will also feature special plantings to provide food for the butterflies, allowing visitors to get an up-close view of the showy tropical species. “Always… Patsy Cline” is back by popular demand at Virginia Repertory Theatre’s Willow Lawn location through Sept. 16. The show is written and originally directed by Ted Swindley and features the music of Patsy Cline, including “Crazy,” “I Fall to Pieces,” “Sweet Dreams” and “Just a Closer Walk with Thee.” Performances are at 8 p.m. Aug. 31, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sept. 1 and at 2 p.m. Sept. 2. Director, writer, actor and comedian Neal Brennan will perform at the Richmond Funny Bone Comedy Club, 11800 W. Broad St. in the Short Pump Town Center. Brennan co-wrote the stoner cult classic “Half Baked” and also helped create “Chappelle’s Show” with Dave Chappelle. The Chesterfield County Fair continues through Sept. 1 at 10300 Courthouse Rd. There will be midway rides, a carousel, vendors and exhibitors, the Miss Chesterfield pageant, contests, festival fare and more. The Varina Ruritan Club celebrated its 80th anniversary with a banquet Nov. 10, during which it presented several annual awards, including Policeman of the Year – to Henrico Officer Aaron M. Lancaster (top) – and Firefighter of the Year – to Julian T. Lipscomb (second from top).
The club also received a plaque from the Henrico Division of Fire (third from top) expressing the division's appreciation for the club and its support of fire prevention programs. > Read more.
The grand opening of The Rink outdoor ice skating rink at West Broad Village will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, beginning at 11 a.m. with skating and family activities. At 4 p.m., grand opening festivities – featuring exhibitions of ice sculpting, ice skating and cheering, as well as fire pits, costumed characters, and food vendors – will begin.
