The Friday Night Fun Club for ages 50+ will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Hidden Creek Recreation Center, 2417 Brockway Ln. Socialize with friends while playing card and board games. Celebrate the richness of the Philippines at the 7th annual Filipino Festival from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 10 and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 11. Enjoy authentic cuisine, live bands, a special performance by the Latin Ballet of Virginia and Filipino line dancing. There will also be exhibits, health screenings, kiddie games, crafts, jewelry, clothing and more. The festival is sponsored by and held on the grounds of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 8200 Woodman Rd. The first annual Wine & Whiskers dog-friendly event will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Shops at Willow Lawn, 1601 Willow Lawn Dr. (Note: This is a change. The event on Aug. 10 was postponed due to weather) The event includes wine tastings from local vineyards including Lake Anna Winery, Cooper Vineyards, First Colony Winery and Mattaponi Winery. There will also be live music from 80s cover band, Party McFly. The event is free and open to the public, including dogs. Wine tasting is $5. Proceeds benefit FETCH a Cure. The Jammin’ on the James Concert Series continues from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wilton House Museum, 215 S. Wilton Rd. Henricus Historical Park will commemorate the 400th anniversary of the adoption of the Virginia Colony’s first legal system from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Laws Divine, Moral and Martial were enforced by Sir Thomas Dale beginning in 1612. Living historians will explore the elements of these laws and visitors will be able to participate in court proceedings and examine colonial and Virginia Indian codes of conduct and punishments. Popular Short Pump spot offers upscale comfort, flavors
The Wine Loft opened in West Broad Village in January 2010, offering a full bar with wine, beer, spirits and a kitchen with tapas-style snacks. It offers a seasonal patio area along Whittall Way. Its walk-in wine “humidor” in plain view from the bar offers more than 85 wines by the glass ($6-$65) and about 250 by the bottle ($28 and up), with some emphasis on Italian wines.
