Laburnum Ave. Targeted to Richmond’s Latino communities but open to all, “Feria” offers employment opportunities, including the Henrico Police, networking and community resources, such as health information, nonprofit resources and state resources like the DMV. There will also be prize raffles, music, food and workshops and seminars throughout the day on various topics in Spanish such as health, business, education, family services and emergency awareness. Participants also will learn how to treat an allergic reaction with an EpiPen auto-injector and receive tips on managing food allergies at home, in schools and in child care centers. Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.
The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.

Mother and son open new restaurant in Sandston

The Sandston Kitchen will celebrate its official grand opening on Memorial Day, May 27. The restaurant is located in the site of the former Sandston Pharmacy at 2 West Williamsburg Road. It serves breakfast and lunch seven days a week and dinner Tuesday through Saturday. > Read more.

Ironfish delights with a variety of tasty catches

I was overjoyed to head back for another meal at Ironfish by Pescados, considered the Best New Restaurant in 2011 by both the Richmond Times Dispatch and Richmond Magazine. I agree whole-heartedly with their ratings. Since I first visited the restaurant for my birthday in January, I was waiting for the perfect special occasion to return. I couldn’t wait another year, obviously.

Veteran restaurateur set to open in Short Pump
Tran’s Pho 1 Grill will serve Vietnamese fare

Paul Tran, along with his wife Ellen will open up Pho 1 Grill, a Vietnamese restaurant, in June in the Towne Center West Shopping Center.
Tran has been serving up Vietnamese food since the mid-’80s, his first being Que Huong on Rigsby Road. He also owned Mr. Chan’s on Horsepen Road and Saigon Gourmet on Hull Street Road. > Read more.
