Enjoy an evening of bluegrass music with Johnson County Sheriffs Band and the Cary Street Ramblers at 7 p.m. at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, 2880 Mountain Rd. Freedom House will host a fundraising event from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Allianz Global Assistance, 2805 N. Parham Rd. The Empty Bowls Benefit is a grassroots effort by artists and craftspeople across the country to support feeding programs for the hungry in their communities. This Colombian legend is of an old fisherman whose wish of becoming a young boy again, comes true. The 17th annual Varina Community Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Dorey Park, 2999 Darbytown Rd. Join Dabbs House historians as they recount the aftermath of the Battle of Seven Pines from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Seven Pines National Cemetery, 400 E. Williamsburg Rd. Hear about the families, homes and land that made up the battle ground in which the town of Sandston now sits. A ceremony to honor those who lost their lives during the battle will follow. Popular Short Pump spot offers upscale comfort, flavors
The Wine Loft opened in West Broad Village in January 2010, offering a full bar with wine, beer, spirits and a kitchen with tapas-style snacks. It offers a seasonal patio area along Whittall Way. Its walk-in wine “humidor” in plain view from the bar offers more than 85 wines by the glass ($6-$65) and about 250 by the bottle ($28 and up), with some emphasis on Italian wines.
