The Troudadours Theatre Community Group will present “Guys and Dolls” at 7:30 p.m. April 27 and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. April 28 at the Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Rd. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for seniors and children ages 12 and under. For details, call 714-6277.

The Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA) will host a special recycling event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Twin Hickory Library, 5001 Twin Hickory Rd. Items accepted include televisions, computers, computer monitors, computer accessories, printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, telephones and cell phones, VCRs and camcorders, stereos, microwaves and more. Elko Middle School’s community bazaar, postponed from March 23, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school, 5901 Elko Rd. There will be 38 vendors, a car wash, food, a cub mobile race, scout sign-ups and more. Admission is free. For details, call 328-4110.

Henrico East Rotary will host the 3rd annual Rockin’ the Raceway from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Colonial Downs in New Kent. Food and beverages will be for sale and The Remnants will provide live entertainment. Proceeds will support the Chickahominy YMCA and other charitable endeavors of Henrico East Rotary. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will host its 3rd annual Superhero Run at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Villa, 8000 Brook Rd. The 5K race is open to all ages and participants are encouraged to dress in their favorite superhero costumes. Medals will be awarded to the top finishers and prizes will be given to runners wearing the “most heroic” costumes. A post-race fair with moon bounces, face painting, games and other entertainment will follow. Registration fees are $10 to $30 in advance and $15 to $35 the day of the race. Local families are invited to “Take on Summer” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the annual Healthy Kids Day® and Walk, taking place at four YMCA branches, including Northside and Shady Grove in Henrico. The free community event, in partnership with Bon Secours Richmond Health System, helps families find fun through active play and educational opportunities. Each location will feature fun activities, including rock walls, pony rides, obstacle courses, McGruff Child ID stations, Food Fear Factor, Action Art Painting, relay races, face painting and more. St. Joseph’s Villa will hold its Bluegrass Ball at 6 p.m. on the Villa campus at 8000 Brook Rd. The event will raise funds for the Villa's Flagler Home, which serves homeless children and their families. The Bluegrass Ball is also the 18th Hoe-down to Stomp Homelessness. The Henrico County Democratic Committee’s signature fundraiser “Battle for the Blue” will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Crossroads Arts Center, 2016 Staples Mill Rd. Aneesh Chopra, President Obama’s former chief technology officer, will speak on “Winning the Future through Open Innovation.” Dinner tickets are $50. Proceeds will help the committee build a strong grassroots base and will provide resources for voter registration drives and get-out-the-vote efforts. The Short Pump Ruritan/Civic Association Foundation, Inc. recently presented a check for $50,000 to the Virginia War Memorial Educational Foundation. Fan Care offers heat relief to seniors

Qualifying senior citizens can receive free relief from summer heat through the 23rd annual Fan Care program, which provides fans and cooling assistance to seniors 60 and older in need.

The program is an initiative of Senior Connections, The Capital Area Agency on Aging for seniors who meet income eligibility requirements and have a situation that threatens their health. > Read more.

A community ‘Kaffeehaus’ in Henrico’s Far West End

Born and raised in good old Europe, I am quite familiar with the traditional Austro-Hungarian tradition of the Kaffeehaus, an institution that represents a lifestyle of relaxing and thinking in a familiar environment with coffee, pastry, news, good service, marble tables, subdued sounds like the click-clack of the coffee machine, mugs and plates, conversations among patrons and with staff and a bit of low volume Johann Strauss music.

And so it was a thrill to find a modern version of a Kaffeehaus right here in Henrico County: The Daily Grind, near Short Pump Town Center. > Read more.

Oklahoma tornado victims to benefit from Innsbrook concert

The Innsbrook Foundation will present a special concert June 19 at the Innsbrook Snagajob Pavilion to raise funds benefiting the victims of the Moore and Shawnee communities of Oklahoma.

The Innsbrook After Hours RVA Cares event will feature five bands and a family festival in recognition of the many families devastated by the Oklahoma tornadoes on May 20, which killed 23 people, injured 377 others, and left destroyed and damaged homes affecting 33,000 residents. > Read more.

Food trucks arrive in the West End

West End residents no longer have to pick between fighting the summer mall crowds for a quick bite or breaking the bank to eat at a fine-dining spot because one Richmond group is bringing both to them.

RVA Street Foodies, the organization behind the outdoor food truck courts at the Virginia Historical Society and Hardywood Brewery, debuted its new Henrico food truck court at All Saints Episcopal Church on River Road May 22. > Read more.
