Barksdale Theatre’s production of “Scorched Earth – A World Premiere” opens today and runs through May 20 at Barksdale’s Willow Lawn location, 1601 Willow Lawn Dr. Best-selling author and Richmond native David L. Robbins has adapted his suspense-filled, compassionate thriller for the stage. A rural Virginia community is torn apart when the tiny body of a stillborn, mixed-race baby is exhumed from the graveyard, and the neighboring church is burned to the ground. The presentation contains some profanity and is suggested for ages 14 and older. Tickets are $38 for adults, $35 for seniors and $19 for students. A presentation of “She Stoops to Conquer” will be shown at 7:30 p.m. in Camp Concert Hall at the University of Richmond. “She Stoops to Conquer” celebrates chaos, courtship and the dysfunctional family. The Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA) will host a special recycling and shred ID theft event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Virginia Center Commons Mall, 10101 Brook Rd., and at St. Paul’s Baptist Church, 4247 Creighton Rd. Items accepted include televisions, computers, printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, telephones and cell phones, VCRs and camcorders, stereos, microwaves and more. A $7 fee is charged to recycle all TVs but other electronic devices will be collected for free. Every Sunday the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center will be open from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for family fun time with kids of all ages.
