College improv teams from across Virginia and beyond will gather in Henrico for two nights of competitive improvisational comedy, March 16-17 at ComedySportz Improv Theatre, 8906-H W. Broad St. Eight teams were chosen for the inaugural competition: George Mason University (Mason Improv Association), J. Sargeant Reynolds (The JSR Not-Quite-Ready-For-A-Four-Year-Institution Players), Old Dominion University (DaMinions), University of Maryland-College Park (Erasable Inc.), University of Miami (Miami Boot Squad), University of North Carolina (Improv-A-Nation), University of Richmond (Subject to Change) and Virginia Commonwealth University (Rambling Ramblers). March 16 will feature all of the Elite Eight colleges battling it out over the course of two shows – 8 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. The winners of Friday's matches will move on to the Final Four competition March 17 at 7 p.m. and then the victors of those matches will meet in the championship round immediately following at 9:30 p.m. The champion will walk away with the very first ever Humorous Cup. The work of artists and craftsmen with disabilities from across Virginia will be showcased at the 9th annual Arts & Crafts Show and Sale from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 16 and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 17 at Resources for Independent Living (RIL), 4009 Fitzhugh Ave. Works on display will include paintings, jewelry, pottery, weavings, drawings, woodcarvings, candles and more. The University of Richmond’s Media Resource Center and the Office of International Education will sponsor an international film series throughout the spring in the Ukrop Auditorium, a new 225-seat facility in the Robins School of Business. The film “The Human Resources Manager,” a 2011 film from Israel, will play at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. March 16 and at 7:30 p.m. March 18. One Voice Chorus will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a performance of “Handel’s Messiah” at 7 p.m. at River Road Church Baptist, 8000 River Rd. The chorus consists of more than 100 singers, a full orchestra and professional soloists. The 10th annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration at Capital Ale House in Innsbrook will begin at noon. A new Irish menu for 2012 will be available, as well as over 10 different Irish and Scottish Ales on tap and at least 10 more in the bottle. The celebration will take place in the restaurant and in the Innsbrook Shoppes Courtyard within a 3,500 square feet heated tent. The Richmond Area Mothers of Multiples (RAMOM) Spring Yard Sale will take place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Chickahominy Middle School, 9450 Atlee Station Rd. Popular Short Pump spot offers upscale comfort, flavors
The Wine Loft opened in West Broad Village in January 2010, offering a full bar with wine, beer, spirits and a kitchen with tapas-style snacks. It offers a seasonal patio area along Whittall Way. Its walk-in wine “humidor” in plain view from the bar offers more than 85 wines by the glass ($6-$65) and about 250 by the bottle ($28 and up), with some emphasis on Italian wines.
