The Moon Rats, a hip, new blue-country-rock-grass orchestra will perform at 7 p.m. at Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Rd. The once-in-a-lifetime U.K. National Gallery exhibit “Leonardo da Vinci: Painter at the Court of Milan” brings together the largest ever number of da Vinci’s paintings. Captured live at the gallery on the eve of the exhibition opening, “LEONARDO LIVE” offers an unprecedented opportunity for audiences worldwide to experience these da Vinci works. The presentation will provide a high-definition walk-through of the landmark exhibition, in-depth commentary about featured pieces in the exhibit and extra content. “LEONARDO LIVE” will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Camp Concert Hall at the University of Richmond. The Virginia Orchid Society will present its 2012 annual Orchid Show & Sale, “Orchids, Jewels of the Jungle,” at Strange’s Florist and Greenhouse, 12111 W. Broad St. A preview gala party will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday. All of the displays will be judged earlier in the day and the awards will available to view. Refreshments will be served. The 4th annual Race to Protect Children, to benefit Greater Richmond Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN), will be held in West Broad Village in Short Pump. The Kids 1-Mile Run will start at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K Run/Walk will start at 9 a.m. Awards will be given. After the race, Dave & Buster’s will host a family festival. The 3rd annual Bluegrass Marathon Jam, benefitting the Richmond Fisher House at McGuire Veteran’s Medical Center, will be held from noon to midnight at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, 2880 Mountain Rd. The 12-hour jam will feature bands Copper Ridge, Cary Street Ramblers, East of Afton, Slack Family Bluegrass, Highway 249, Some Assembly Required, River City Band and Willis River Band. Attendees are invited to bring their own instruments for jam sessions. Admission is free but donations are accepted. The Gayton Kirk Presbyterian Church, 11421 Gayton Rd., will present “Mark Twain’s Civil War” at 7 p.m. A completely Richmond-created show based on Twain’s writings and speeches he gave to veterans groups, the play deals with issues of war, loyalties and faith. The one-night-only performance will be followed by a panel discussion with the director and local Civil War experts. The play is presented as part of The Acts of Faith Festival. Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.

The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.

Veteran restaurateur set to open in Short Pump

Tran’s Pho 1 Grill will serve Vietnamese fare
After nearly a year out of the restaurant industry, a well known 30-year Henrico restaurateur is ready to open up his fifth venture in Short Pump.

Paul Tran, along with his wife Ellen will open up Pho 1 Grill, a Vietnamese restaurant, in June in the Towne Center West Shopping Center.

Tran has been serving up Vietnamese food since the mid-’80s, his first being Que Huong on Rigsby Road. He also owned Mr. Chan’s on Horsepen Road and Saigon Gourmet on Hull Street Road. > Read more.

Popular Short Pump spot offers upscale comfort, flavors
The Wine Loft opened in West Broad Village in January 2010, offering a full bar with wine, beer, spirits and a kitchen with tapas-style snacks. It offers a seasonal patio area along Whittall Way. Its walk-in wine “humidor” in plain view from the bar offers more than 85 wines by the glass ($6-$65) and about 250 by the bottle ($28 and up), with some emphasis on Italian wines.
