The 24th annual Richmond Boat Show will be at the Richmond Raceway Complex, 600 E. Laburnum Ave., from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 17, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 18 and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 19. Boats on display from 18 dealers include runabouts, saltwater fishing boats, ski boats, pontoon boats, deck boats, jet boats, PWCs, motor yachts and bass boats. Additional exhibits include boat lifts, floating docks, marine electronics, water sports and safety equipment. Experts will be on hand to give information and answer questions about marinas, financing, insurance, boat maintenance and repair and boating safety. A Good Natured Riot, a folk-funk ensemble with a jazzy soul, will perform at 8 p.m. at Ashland Coffee and Tea, 100 N. Learn about the hidden history of African Americans during the Civil War from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Dabbs House Museum, 3812 Nine Mile Rd. Explore the lives of enslaved blacks before and during the Civil War, such as the contributions of the United States Colored Troops on Henrico soil to the Union war effort. Also discover the Reconstruction-era struggle of African Americans and Henrico County’s attempts to assist them. Admission is free. The service, which will include live and recorded U2 music, is free and open to the public. An offering will be collected to benefit Bread for Life, a relief and development organization that addresses spiritual and physical hunger in Africa, as well as the Central Virginia Food Bank. County plans Fourth of July event


Henrico County Recreation and Parks will present “Red, White, and Lights” at Meadow Farm Museum/Crump Park July 4.

Henrico County has hosted a Fourth of July celebration annually since 1981, but this year’s event will offer a later start time and expanded hours and be highlighted by new entertainment.

The free event will begin at 4:30 p.m. and will feature the Richmond Symphony, a laser-light show, patriotic performances, and family activities. > Read more.

Weekend Top 10


There are some great events this weekend in Henrico that will take your mind off the incredible heat. Highland Springs residents are invited to a Neighborhood Block Party with music, games, food and giveaways. The Tuckahoe Square Dance Club will host a dance at Pinchbeck Elementary School. There are still a few spots left for a free women’s self-defense class at The Academy of Kung Fu.
