Barksdale Theatre will present “Always…Patsy Cline” through April 29 at Hanover Tavern, 13181 Hanover Courthouse Rd. The show is a tribute to legendary country singer Patsy Cline who died at age 30 in a plane crash in 1963. It includes many of Cline’s hits such as “Crazy,” “I Fall to Pieces,” “Sweet Dreams” and “Walking After Midnight.” The show is part of the 2012 Acts of Faith Festival. A river-themed indoor art walk titled “Winter to Spring” will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Crossroads Art Center, 2016 Staples Mill Rd. The exhibit displays original art by James River Art League members including oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolors and mixed media. River-related art will be offered for sale and members of the Friends of the James River Park will be available with information about FOJRP. Admission is free. St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 12291 River Rd., will present “To Whom It May Concern” at 7 p.m. Jan. 20-21 and at 2 p.m. Jan. 22. The musical is a warm and witty observation of what really goes on in the hearts and minds of people as they participate in a church service. Youth ages 8-12 are invited to Snowflakes, Kites and S’mores from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Dorey Recreation Center, 2999 Darbytown Rd. Visitors to Henricus Historical Park, 251 Henricus Park Rd., are invited to participate in the Battle of Trent’s Reach Civil War Tour aboard the “Discovery Barge II,” a covered 24-pontoon boat captained by Mike Ostrander of Discover the James. Tours will take place at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. The excursion will feature local wildlife and 17th-century through modern day history at Henricus and Dutch Gap. The program “Sing Out for Freedom – Pray for Peace” will take place at 4 p.m. at Congregation Beth Ahabah, 1111 W. Varina Ruritans honor police, fire officials and community members

The Varina Ruritan Club celebrated its 80th anniversary with a banquet Nov. 10, during which it presented several annual awards, including Policeman of the Year – to Henrico Officer Aaron M. Lancaster (top) – and Firefighter of the Year – to Julian T. Lipscomb (second from top).

The club also received a plaque from the Henrico Division of Fire (third from top) expressing the division's appreciation for the club and its support of fire prevention programs. > Read more.

The Rink to open at WBV Nov. 14

The grand opening of The Rink outdoor ice skating rink at West Broad Village will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, beginning at 11 a.m. with skating and family activities. At 4 p.m., grand opening festivities – featuring exhibitions of ice sculpting, ice skating and cheering, as well as fire pits, costumed characters, and food vendors – will begin. Skating costs are $8 for children and $10 for adults, with $4 skate rentals available. Parking is free. The Rink is located at 3939 Duckling Drive, Glen Allen.
