Barksdale Theatre will present “Always…Patsy Cline” through April 29 at Hanover Tavern, 13181 Hanover Courthouse Rd. The show is a tribute to legendary country singer Patsy Cline who died at age 30 in a plane crash in 1963. It includes many of Cline’s hits such as “Crazy,” “I Fall to Pieces,” “Sweet Dreams” and “Walking After Midnight.” The show is part of the 2012 Acts of Faith Festival. A river-themed indoor art walk titled “Winter to Spring” will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Crossroads Art Center, 2016 Staples Mill Rd. The exhibit displays original art by James River Art League members including oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolors and mixed media. River-related art will be offered for sale and members of the Friends of the James River Park will be available with information about FOJRP. Admission is free. St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 12291 River Rd., will present “To Whom It May Concern” at 7 p.m. Jan. 20-21 and at 2 p.m. Jan. 22. The musical is a warm and witty observation of what really goes on in the hearts and minds of people as they participate in a church service. Youth ages 8-12 are invited to Snowflakes, Kites and S’mores from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Dorey Recreation Center, 2999 Darbytown Rd. The Center Season at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, 2880 Mountain Rd., continues at 7 p.m. with “An Evening with Mark Twain.” The performance is an insightful and humorous re-creation of a lecture that the world famous author would have given during his highly acclaimed work tour culminating in 1905. Visitors to Henricus Historical Park, 251 Henricus Park Rd., are invited to participate in the Battle of Trent’s Reach Civil War Tour aboard the “Discovery Barge II,” a covered 24-pontoon boat captained by Mike Ostrander of Discover the James. Tours will take place at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. The excursion will feature local wildlife and 17th-century through modern day history at Henricus and Dutch Gap. The program “Sing Out for Freedom – Pray for Peace” will take place at 4 p.m. at Congregation Beth Ahabah, 1111 W. More cyclists on the way

Riders to pass through county on East Coast Greenway tour
From October 4-9, 35 cyclists will be riding through Henrico County as part of a 325-mile tour of the East Coast Greenway (ECG) route from Fredericksburg, Virginia, to Raleigh, NC.

A 2,900-mile trail route that extends from the Canadian border at Calais, Maine, to Key West, Florida, The East Coast Greenway is heading into its 25th year. The Week A Year (WAY) Tour is an annual ride and fundraiser that has been working its way south since the first WAY Tour launched from Calais, Maine in 2011. Riders cover a different section of the Greenway each year and are on target to complete the route in Key West in 2019. > Read more.

Henrico woman wins $1M in Va. Lottery game

When Amanda Spiller of Henrico saw that she’d won the $1 million prize in the Virginia Lottery’s $100 Million Cash Extravaganza game, it didn’t immediately sink in.

“I was in shock. . . complete shock,” she said. “I had to double and triple check.”

She bought the winning ticket at the 7-Eleven at 2750 Hungary Spring Road in Henrico. She had the choice of taking the full $1 million prize over 30 years or a one-time cash option of $681,000 before taxes. She chose the cash option. The store received a $10,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket. > Read more.

The Volunteers of the United States Army Field Band to perform Oct. 15

Henrico County Recreation and Parks is hosting a concert by The Volunteers of the United States Army Field Band on Thursday, Oct. 15 at Henrico Theatre, 305 East Nine Mile Road in Highland Springs. This free concert will be held at 7 p.m. and will feature Soldier-Musicians from the U.S. Army Field Band.

Since its inception in 1981, The Volunteers has been telling the Army story through rock, pop, country, and patriotic music. Its members have performed for millions of listeners in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, Kuwait, and Iraq. This group tours more than 100 days each year, bringing a powerful message of patriotism and support to communities large and small. > Read more.
