‘Rocketts Red Glare’ celebrates Memorial Day with fireworks

Rocketts Landing will make the Richmond skyline sparkle this Memorial Day with Rocketts Red Glare on Sunday, May 27. The free event will feature fireworks, live music and family-friendly activities to celebrate the long holiday weekend.

Rocketts Red Glare will kick-off at 5:30 p.m. with a performance by local musician Colin Healy on the volleyball court adjacent to The Boathouse. Virginia party band Kings of Swing will take the stage at 6:30 p.m. and play throughout the fireworks show, which begins around 9 p.m. During the event, replicas of Christopher Columbus’ famous Pinta and Nina ships will be docked at Rocketts Landing with guided tours available.

“We’re excited to welcome Richmonders to Rocketts Landing to celebrate the official start of summer,” said Richard Souter, vice president of The WVS Companies, developer of the Village at Rocketts Landing. “Situated on the river’s banks and with the city skyline as a backdrop, everyone will get a great view of the fireworks.”

Wine and craft beer will be available, with a portion of proceeds going to the Neighborhood Resource Center, a nonprofit that supports the Greater Fulton Community in Eastern Henrico. Dessert vendors also will be on-hand. Picnic baskets are welcome, along with chairs and blankets for seating.

The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation will host the Virginia Ride for Kids at 11 a.m. The family-friendly loop ride begins at Richmond International Raceway and travels through Henrico County. Any make or model of street legal motorcycle is welcome. There will be activities for non-riders as well, including a bike show, food, vendors, speakers and activities for the whole family. The Virginia Ride for Kids is one of 30 PBTF-hosted motorcycle rides taking place this year. Now in its 15th year, the Virginia Ride for Kids has raised more than $1.1 million to help the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation fund childhood brain tumor research and life-changing family support programs.
