Citizen Staff Reports 05/24/12
Rocketts Red Glare will kick-off at 5:30 p.m. with a performance by local musician Colin Healy on the volleyball court adjacent to The Boathouse. Virginia party band Kings of Swing will take the stage at 6:30 p.m. and play throughout the fireworks show, which begins around 9 p.m. During the event, replicas of Christopher Columbus’ famous Pinta and Nina ships will be docked at Rocketts Landing with guided tours available. “We’re excited to welcome Richmonders to Rocketts Landing to celebrate the official start of summer,” said Richard Souter, vice president of The WVS Companies, developer of the Village at Rocketts Landing. “Situated on the river’s banks and with the city skyline as a backdrop, everyone will get a great view of the fireworks.” Wine and craft beer will be available, with a portion of proceeds going to the Neighborhood Resource Center, a nonprofit that supports the Greater Fulton Community in Eastern Henrico. Dessert vendors also will be on-hand. Picnic baskets are welcome, along with chairs and blankets for seating.
