Nominate a local senior for Valentine’s Day Friendship and Cheer
Citizen Staff Reports 01/28/13
Emeritus at Deep-Run, a senior living community in the west end, is seeking nominations for its Valentine’s Day Friendship and Cheer contest. A local senior, who otherwise would spend Valentine’s Day alone, will receive a free Valentine’s dinner at home with gifts and friends.
“At the time of year that we celebrate love, it’s important to extend caring and friendship to the senior generation,” said Ruby Jones, executive director of Emeritus at Deep Run. “We know that many will spend Valentine’s Day on their own. For those who have lost spouses, it can be a sad occasion that contributes to feelings of loneliness. Family and friends may live far away, and perhaps physical challenges limit their ability to get out into the greater community. We hope to brighten the day for one of these seniors through festivities and friendship.”
The Children's Clothing Closet at Highland Springs United Methodist Church will be open Saturday, Aug. 27 and Tuesday, Aug. 30 to provide free new or nearly new children's clothing for families in need, prior to the start of the school year. The Clothing Closet will be open from 10 a.m. to noon both days. The church is located at 22 North Holly Avenue. > Read more.
