Local recyclers rewarded for efforts
Citizen Staff Reports 12/08/11
Eighteen local recyclers – including two from Henrico County – won prizes from the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA) in celebration of the America Recycles Day 2011, a national awareness campaign that celebrates the successes of recycling while providing an educational platform that helps to raise awareness about the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling – every day – throughout the year.
CVWMA partnered with WTVR CBS6 and Virginia This Morning, TFC Recycling and Valpak to “award” recyclers for making a difference by recycling.
As a part of the campaign citizens are encouraged to pledge their commitment to recycle and buy more recycled products in the upcoming year. In return for their support, a variety of awards were distributed throughout the region. Winners included: CBS6, TFC Recycling and CVWMA Contest Winners – Carter Johann, of Henrico (pictured above right with Jessica Noll of Virginia This Morning); Chris Winch, of Chesterfield; Jim Tipton, of Richmond; and Don and
Maggi Owens, of Colonial Heights; CVWMA Pledge to Recycle Winners – E. Cordie, of Chesterfield (winner of a Wal-Mart gift card); a Henrico County winner who asked not to be identified (Wal-Mart gift card) and grand prize winner S. Jameson, of Richmond (Wal-Mart gift card); CVWMA's Valpak "10 in 10" Recycling Cart Winners – 10 winners, including one from Henrico County.
According to CVWMA officials, the volume of materials recycled through its curbside and drop-off programs each year could fill up The Diamond three times.
Visit http://www.cvwma.com or call the CVWMA hotline at 340-0900 to learn more about recycling programs.
