 The 2012-13 theme is “Imagine Peace” and students may enter the essay contest or poster contest to express their feelings about peace. Essays must be no longer than 500 words in length, submitted in English, type-written in black ink and double spaced. Students entering the poster contest may use a variety of mediums, including charcoal, crayon, pencil or paint. Students who are ages 11-13 by Nov. 15 are eligible to participate. The contest is open to students who are visually impaired. The local winner’s entry will be submitted to District competition. One grand prize winner will receive an award of $5,000 from Lions Clubs International. Submission deadline is Sept. 28. Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.
The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.

Veteran restaurateur set to open in Short Pump
Tran’s Pho 1 Grill will serve Vietnamese fare
Paul Tran, along with his wife Ellen will open up Pho 1 Grill, a Vietnamese restaurant, in June in the Towne Center West Shopping Center.
Tran has been serving up Vietnamese food since the mid-’80s, his first being Que Huong on Rigsby Road. He also owned Mr. Chan’s on Horsepen Road and Saigon Gourmet on Hull Street Road. > Read more.
