Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is again offering free admission July 4 as part of its All-American Celebration. Now in its third year, past history has seen an especially diverse group of visitors on this day with attendance ranging from 3,000-5,000 guests.
Guests on the fourth will be able to visit the garden’s Butterflies Live exhibit and participate in children’s activities. The Happy Lucky Combo will perform live music from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Children’s Garden. At 2 p.m. guests are invited to decorate themselves, strollers and wagons in red, white and blue and parade around the Children’s Garden. Other attractions include the WaterPlay area, ice cream (available for purchase) and Ms. Wheelchair Virginia Stephanie Copeland, who will make an appearance in the Children’s Garden. The garden is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and is located at 1800 Lakeside Ave. For details, visit http://www.lewisginter.org . |

Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.
The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.
