Lewis Ginter offering free admission July 4

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is again offering free admission July 4 as part of its All-American Celebration. Now in its third year, past history has seen an especially diverse group of visitors on this day with attendance ranging from 3,000-5,000 guests.

Guests on the fourth will be able to visit the garden’s Butterflies Live exhibit and participate in children’s activities. The Happy Lucky Combo will perform live music from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Children’s Garden. At 2 p.m. guests are invited to decorate themselves, strollers and wagons in red, white and blue and parade around the Children’s Garden.

Other attractions include the WaterPlay area, ice cream (available for purchase) and Ms. Wheelchair Virginia Stephanie Copeland, who will make an appearance in the Children’s Garden.

The garden is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and is located at 1800 Lakeside Ave. For details, visit http://www.lewisginter.org.

Henricus Historical Park will present its annual celebration of the 1611 founding of the Citie of Henricus from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 23-24. The 17th-century ship replica, Godspeed from Jamestown Settlement, will be at the Henricus dock for free tours. Watch 400 years of history come to life with living history re-enactments, military drills and musket firings, craftsmen and blacksmiths, 17th-century medicinal demonstrations, Virginia Indian activities, historical children’s games and crafts, storytelling, and more.
