James River cleanup scheduled June 9
|
Citizen Staff Reports 05/31/12
The James River Advisory Council, in cooperation with the James River Association, will sponsor the 13th annual James River Regional Cleanup on Saturday, June 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at various spots along the river.
Volunteers may select sites between Lynchburg and Charles City County, including Osborne Park and Boat Landing in Varina. Volunteers will pick up trash and recyclable materials along shoreline areas and trails, while paddlers and power-boaters will collect floating trash and access shoreline trash that is difficult to reach by foot. Much of the trash collected is the result of litter that is carried by rain runoff along roadside ditches to streams, and eventually to the James River.
