Hoopsters with heart

Andrew Tilghman, age 9, was one of several family members of "Make-a-Wish kids" who got a special treat Dec. 2 at Dave & Buster’s Restaurant in West Broad Village, with the help of the Harlem Globetrotters and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Virginia. Globetrotters Firefly Fisher (pictured above, with Andrew), Slick Willie Shaw (below), and the legendary Curly Neal hosted a pre-Christmas Parade party at which five children (including Andrew's sister) enjoyed food, drinks and free game cards with their families.

The three Globetrotters walked in Richmond's annual Christmas parade the following day, and returned to town yesterday to open the first week of their 2012 World Tour with a game at Richmond Coliseum.

Enjoy an evening of bluegrass music featuring Tara Mills and Jimmy Stelling at 7 p.m. at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, 2880 Mountain Rd. Mills, a singer-songwriter from Charlottesville, describes her music as “original blue ridge mountain folk.” Stelling is an acclaimed banjo player.
