Heaven-sent pennies

Children in the Chickahominy Family YMCA’s afterschool program gave a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to Shelby Walker, a store associate at the JC Penney at the Shops at White Oak Village, last month. Walker is credited with having the highest participation rate – 99 percent – of all associates in JC Penney’s back-to-school “Pennies from heaven” campaign, through which store associates ask customers to round up their purchase total to the next whole dollar, with proceeds going to the company’s afterschool fund.

SingleStone Consulting will host its first annual Cornhole for a Cause charity cornhole tournament at 4 p.m. at 4101 Cox Rd. All proceeds will benefit Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now). Non-refundable entry fee is $50 per team through Apr. 30 and $75 per team through May 18; fee covers admission for both players, two t-shirts and six drink tickets. Boards and bags are provided.
